아마도 아담과 이브가 에덴동산에서 쫓겨나던 그 봄날에도 월든 호수는 이미 존재하고 있었을 것이며,

Perhaps on that spring morning when Adam and Eve were driven out of Eden Walden Pond was already in existence,

 

옅은 안개와 남쪽 바람을 동반한 부드러운 봄비를 맞아 호수의 얼음이 녹고 있었을 것이다.

 and even then breaking up in a gentle spring rain accompanied with mist and a southerly wind,

 

수면에는 아직 인간의 몰락의 소식을 듣지 못한 수많은 물오리와 기러기 들이 그처럼 맑은 호수에 흡족해하며 떠 있었으리라.

and covered with myriads of ducks and geese, which had not heard of the fall, when still such pure lakes sufficed them.
